Set up AdSense URL Channels To Track Top Earning Hubs

Once you've published several hubs and begin making money with Google AdSense it's only natural that you would want to know exactly which hubs are earning you the most money. You'd definitely want to publish more of those particular kinds of hubs. Likewise you would want to know which hubs are earning the least amount of money. Or perhaps there are some that are not getting any AdSense earnings at all. Quite obviously, you'd want to edit, tweak and improve all those hubs to make them more profitable.

In Google AdSense, you can set up Custom channels or URL channels. The Custom channels deal with tracking performance on ad units. Those are not the ones this hub is addressing because HubPages automatically positions ad units and users do not have the ability to change ad positions.

AdSense URL Channels Overview

The URL channels are the ones we are going to discuss. "URL" channels can track a domain i.e. HubPages.com or a singe page URL can be tracked i.e. individual hubs. Google AdSense allows you to set up a maximum of 200 URL channels. That should be plenty for a beginner. However, if you have a large number of pages to track and need to change pages you want to track, you can stop tracking one and add another in it's place.

*** Update: Google has a new AdSense Interface in beta

Google Adsense has a new Interface in beta. This hub is covering the old interface. I will be checking into and writing a hub on how to add URL channels on the new Google AdSense interface. Thanks.

I finished all of the steps, but it still won't work. When I click on all channels, all it shows is "hubpages.com." When I click on view all, it shows all my links but still won't give any stats regardless of what I do. Any ideas?

Thanks. I'm learning, and this site has been a lot of help.

Arizonataylor, setting up channels starts tracking immediately, but apparently does not start displaying data right away. After you set up your channels, it may take a day or so for your data to be displayed. So, if you set up channels today, check tomorrow to see if your data will be displayed. I've updated the instructions. If it's still not working for you tomorrow, double check the steps.

Google is changing to a new interface. They may have changed the way channels are set up also. I need to check on this. Thanks for commenting.

I's like to keep track of my Adsense earnings in Hubpages as a whole. Can I just add "hubpages.com?"

NoRR4Me profile image

NoRR4Me Hub Author 17 months ago

Kapalbility, yes of course you can add hubpages.com. You'll get the total earnings, but you won't know which individual hubs earned the money. Thanks.

Thank you. This guide is really helpful for those who want to track individual hubs. By teh way, you can switch back to the old interface if you want to sue this guide. (Then Switch back to the new one later)

Thanks again for commenting Kapalbility, but I wanted to mention that yes, you can still use the old interface for now. However, it will probably be done away with soon just like they did with the AdWords Keyword Tool. They introduce a new interface and leave the old available for a little while, then one day the old one is gone for good.:-)

I wonder if tracking individual hubs is going to become as essential as SEO and link building for Web 2.0 sites; it would definitely help to identify what works and what doesn't.

Very helpful hub, thanks for the information.
