Hub Pages Tip: Try The Hub Stew

Hub Stew: A different term - same process.

Hub Pages’ Hub Stew is yummy. You, my readers are probably thinking, “What on earth is Hub Stew?", and “This NoRR4Me person must be a real nut case". I laugh. No. Hub Stew is not food. You don‘t eat it. Hub Stew is just a cheesy term I came up with while browsing around on Hub Pages and reading Hubs about how to improve Hub scores and traffic. Other Hubbers were speaking of this process in other terms. One Hubber refers to it as being an incubation period and uses an analogy of a hen sitting on her laid eggs, keeping them safe and warm until they hatch. I must admit, that idea is pretty clever and cute. Another Hubber speaks of the same process, advising that we should let our Hubs “stew”, hence the phrase that naturally popped into my mind, Hub Stew.

What is Hub Stew?

When you write a Hub for Hub Pages, you have the option to save your Hub without publishing it at that very moment. You don’t have to finish it in one sitting. Hub Stew is the process of writing your Hub, then saving it without immediately publishing it. While your Hub is waiting for you to add the finishing touches to it, it is not stagnant. It’s Hub score is gradually increasing. (Note: The Hub score can also go down while your Hub is in an unpublished state. Incidentally, this very Hub on Hub Stew went down from 51 to 50 before I decided to make some changes and publish it. ) While your Hub is sitting there unpublished and stewing, supposedly no one except you is able to see it. The view count is only from you viewing your own Hub. Don’t ask me how the system works or what makes the score go up without anyone else seeing your Hub. It’s a mystery to me. I can see why the Hub score may go up if you make additions or improvements to the Hub, but the Hub’s score increases even if nothing else is done to it. How cool is that?!

I tried the Hub Stew.

I myself, enjoyed some Hub Stew. It was great. This is what happened. I usually publish my Hubs immediately after entering my content. However, on my last few Hubs, I didn’t have all my info together at that time, so I saved them without publishing them. In my experience on Hub Pages, my Hubs usually start at a score of 50 or 51 when you hit the publish button. It was the same with these unpublished Hubs. They started at the usual score of 50 or 51. I signed out of Hub Pages, turned off my computer and went to bed. The next time I signed back in to Hub Pages, to my amazement, my Hub scores had gone up quite a bit. Lo and behold, I experienced what other Hubbers had written about. I had the Hub Stew.

What happened next.

I don’t recall what the exact Hub scores were at that time. However, I still did not take the time to finish up my Hubs right then. I checked them later, before I went to bed that second night. The highest Hub scores of my unpublished Hubs had increased to 67, 68, and 69. I noted the scores that time. Wow! I was surprised. The next morning when I finally got around to publishing those Hubs, their scores were 67, 68, and 70. I went about my day, but checked on them later that night and they were 66, 73, and 75. Since then their scores have been pretty consistently in the 70's with one of them slipping to the upper 60‘s at times. This is without any back links. However, I‘ve just recently added one which probably hasn‘t fully kicked in yet. Over all, these Hubs have done OK so far. Their topic is a little bit over saturated, but I hope they will still be able to maintain good scores. That remains to be seen. Whatever happens though, it sure was nice to have a freshly, published Hub score higher than a 51 for a change.

The benefits of Hub Stew.

One Hubber who wrote about “Hub Stew”, suggested that saving your Hubs without immediately publishing them is a good indication of whether they are going to be good ones or not. I don’t know. Maybe it is. That would be a good thing to know to keep from wasting a lot of time on Hubs that aren‘t going to do well anyway. Also, some other Hubbers believe that a Hub published with a higher score (after stewing), will have a better chance of being ranked in the search engines. It would be nice to be ranked on Google period. The higher the better. As for stewing Hubs to see if there’s a indication that they’re going to be good or not, I try to determine if my Hubs are going to be good before writing them. I usually research the topic, check Google, keywords, etc. first.

Try it, you might like it.

There are lots of people who already know about the Hub Stew. They’ve tried it for themselves and recommend it to others. Before my experience, I had only read about it. When I unknowingly tried it, and had a positive outcome from it, I knew I had to write a Hub and share the info. Now, I too, recommend the Hub Stew. I had to give my take on this and spread my cheesy term, Hub Stew. Well, thanks for reading, and please do try the Hub Stew. I think it’s pretty good. Try it. You just might like it too.

I have stewed a few Hubs. They do better slow cooking.

The nice thing about the hub stew method - create but hold off on publishing - is that you can flavor your hub and sample the results. Each hub starts at 50, even unpublished, so you can tweak and add to get your prepublished stew to the sixties or more and then serve a higher rated dish. But, don't stop there!

After you publish, come back and check your ads, and Google reception. Then tweak your tags and keywords to get on more menus...

Thank you for your comment jstankevicz, you're right.

It seems like it takes longer for hubs scores to go up than they used to. I've started to put more of my unfinished hubs in the unpublished state. I used to be concerned that we had to publish them in a relatively short time, but some hubbers said they've had some in the un-publish state since last year. So, I figure I might as well type more of mine in and let them stew to build a higher starting score.

Thanks again.

This is such a well written hub - I hadn't heard of hub stew, but I have let my hubs stew. In fact, I found out that some of my unpublished hubs rated higher than some of my published hubs. Time for edits on those!
