Haters And Planting Seeds -- A Bible Analogy About Sowing & Reaping

Hating on someone is like planting a seed.

I never cease to be amazed at how wicked some people can be. Although I should know better, sometimes it’s the furthest thing from my mind. We should always be aware. Never let your guard down. Just when you start to think people are innately ‘good’, reality smacks you in the face -- again. I've come to realize, hating is like planting a seed.

Haters plant seeds of hate

My experience.

I had a pretty good first week on Hub Pages. I met and communicated with several nice Hubbers. I got excellent feedback on my first Hub. Then came the haters. Amazing, some people can be absolutely amazing. The video I made showing some of the things I hate about the rat race got a 1-star rating. One star? Was it really that bad? I laugh. Who’s hating? Is it someone who loves the rat race and didn’t like me making videos about the rat race?

Who's hating on you?

Is it someone who did it out of jealousy? Competition is alright, but whoa. Is it someone who ‘fat fingered’ their keyboard or clicked the wrong thing by mistake? Maybe it was someone who clicked to watch and the video turned out to be about something totally different than the title lead them to believe. Was it an atheist who came to the video through my Hub wherein I reference God? (Before you ask, yes I’ve come across some who are actually that petty) Who knows? Anyway, after many more views the rating averaged out at or a little above 3 stars, which is good. Personally, I think there are just some people out there who love to hate. Their preferred method of advancing is by pulling down someone else they perceive to be doing a little better than themselves. It’s just like that in the rat race.

Don't let haters get you down

There's no escaping haters.

Now that I think about it, this is a perfect example of what I hate about the rat race. I'll call it exhibit A. It goes to show you, no matter where you go, this kind of behavior can never be completely escaped. Not even if you’re working for yourself online. Now back to my experience, in spite of the 1 star rating on my accompanying video, my Hub and profile scores were rising. I reached very nice numbers, then within a few hours my Hub score dropped down several points. I realize it is very possible that happened because of lower page views, but I still question it. Did a hater down rate my Hub too? I shrug. Maybe, maybe not. I was working on another topic for my next Hub, but at that point I just knew I had to write about this. That’s one positive thing that’s come out of this experience. It gave me more ideas on what to write about. Thus, I have more opportunities to make money. Wow, thank you haters. I appreciate that. I encourage other Hubbers and anyone reading this. Don’t let haters get you down. Whether they’re at your workplace outside the home or hiding somewhere in cyber space on the Internet.

What on earth do haters have to do with planting seeds?

In Galatians 6:7, the Bible says we will reap what we sow. This is the seed analogy.

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." .

Reaping and sowing refers to planting and harvesting as done in farming. I love how God use simple things that all people can understand to explain His principles. Consider one tiny, little tomato seed. It is so small that if you had one in your hand, it would be hard to see it.

Plant 1 tomato seed & reap thousands
Plant 1 tomato seed & reap thousands

Take that single tiny seed and plant it under good soil. Provide the proper light and temperature, water, etc. In between 45 to 100 days, depending on the variety of the tomato, you will have a tomato plant with many tomatoes.Think about the number of seeds you get from planting that first single, tiny, itty bitty seed. There are perhaps hundreds of seeds in just one tomato. Multiply that times the number of tomatoes on the plant. But wait. The plant continues to produce more tomatoes until it's growing cycle is over or it’s conditions deteriorate. Wow. It's possible to get thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of seeds from planting only one seed!

God is truly awesome.

I find God’s system and His abundance absolutely awesome. It’s wonderful. But, how does this seed analogy relate to haters? Haters assume that their deeds are covered and no one else knows what they've done, but the God who hears all and sees all, knows everything. The haters sow or plant hate just like planting a seed. They plant it and cover it with soil. They don’t realize it’s alive and it’s growing. After a period of time, the little hate they sowed will come to maturity and they will reap the hate they sowed. However, it will be multiplied hundreds or thousands of times more than what they sowed. Also consider the time factor. Just because reprisal doesn’t come to the hater immediately, he thinks he’s got away with the evil deed. Nope. Just as the planted seed takes time, that act of hate grows and it will come to fruition. It might be a long time later, but he will reap what he sowed. God is a God of grace and mercy. He’s long suffering. Sometimes, He delays judgment of the unrepentant by weeks, months, years, even decades, but one day it’s coming. I like a saying of a favorite preacher of mine concerning sin. He says, “you might get by for a while, but you’ll never get away with it”. God is a just God.

Smile at haters. Keep on keeping on
Smile at haters. Keep on keeping on

Sow goodness.

Haters don’t realize that the evil they sow today, will come back upon them later multiplied hundreds and thousands of times more than what they sowed. It just doesn’t pay to do evil. Sooner or later, they will reap. As for the victims of the haters, let it go. Put it in God’s hands. He [God] said “vengeance is mine, I will repay.” Romans 12:19. So don’t let haters get you down, keep on keeping on. Sow good instead of hate. God continually blesses those who give their cares and burdens over to Him. The haters don't see that what they intended for evil, God will turn it around and cause something good to come to from it. As the haters stand humped over with a devious grin on their faces, they snicker, "tee, hee, hee". Rubbing their hands together swiftly, they really do believe they’ve accomplished something good for themselves. It's sad. They haven’t. They may have caused a little bit of a ruckus, but they don't see what they've got coming to them. Nor do they see the other doors God has opened for you and the blessings that will come to you from that.

“Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked; For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out" Proverbs 24:19,20.

Don't waste time worrying about haters. Hopefully, one day they will repent. Keep on keeping on. Have a great day. May the Lord’s grace and peace shine upon you. ♥♥♥

When Haters Strike

How do you respond to haters?

  • I cuss them out and try to get back at them. You know.. an eye for an eye.
  • I let it go. Say a small prayer for them. Jesus said to repay evil with good.
  • None of the above.

Thanks for your comment Pente. Yes, eventually they go away.

When all is said and done, the law of sowing and reaping prevails.
